Virat Kohli over takes Rohit Sharma's major records

Mohali: India beat South Africa with 7 wickets in the 2nd T20I at the PCA stadium. Clinical performances from the Indian bowlers and Virat Kohli's brilliant knock of 72 secured India a 1-0 lead in the 3 match T20I series, after the first T20I being washed out.





India skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bowl first in Mohali. South Africa skipper Quinton de Kock was the leading run scorer with 52 and Temba Bavuma contributed with 49 off 43 balls. For India Deepak Chahar starred with 2-22.

South Africa managed to set a target of 150 for the Indian batting juggernaut, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan started the chase aggressively until Rohit was trapped leg before by Andile Phehlukwayo for 12. And Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed by the unbelievable catch by David Miller. But Virat Kohli with his brilliant knock of 72 off 52 with 4 fours and 3 sixes ensured India cruse comfortably over the line.

Shreyas Iyer who came in at no.5 remained not out(16*) with Skipper Virat Kohli. But India's long waiting mystery of no.4 still remains unsolved. Rishabh Pant who came in at no.4 could get going again and was dismissed for single digit score.

During his knock of 72 against South Africa at PCA Stadium, Mohali Virat Kohli became the highest run scorer in T20I leaving behind his deputy Rohit Sharma. 

Now Virat Kohli tops the list with 2441 runs and Rohit Sharma at second position with 2434 runs. With thw two pillars of Indian batting with such a small margin between the runs it will be a healthy competition for the race to top the list with one match still to go in this series which will take place at Bengaluru.

Virat Kohli with this knock now also has most 50+ scores in T20I's, Prior to the game Virat and Rohit were tied with 21 scores of more than 50. Virat Kohli over takes Rohit Sharma with a notch better.

All in all the home season for team India has started with a clinical win and certainly the mission for the World T20 next year in Australia has been on the right track.

The last match of the T20I series will be played on Sunday at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
