England Vs New Zealand World cup Final: England win the World Cup even after a tied Super-Over. The final ended in a tie as England were all out for 241 while chasing 242 to win.
England celebrate Maiden World Cup Title |
Nail bitting, Goosebumps, Edge of the seats at Lord’s. Perhaps a World cup Victory with the slimmest of margins possible. England with their Maiden Title continue the trend of a host winning the World cup for 3 consecutive years.
Even the last ball bowled after six weeks of grueling cricket didn't saw a clear winner for the World Title. After New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat first in the final was a good decision in the context of the game. New Zealand scored 241 runs with half century from Henry Nicholls and some valuable contribution from Tom Latham down the order.
It wasn't a huge target for the host's considering the depth they had in their batting, but New Zealand bowled exceptionally chipping in with regular wickets. Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes kept England in the hunt.
But the real drama was yet to unfold. With 15 runs needed in the last over Ben Stokes was England's only hope with 4 overthrows with the deflection of Ben Stokes the margin narrowed. But the match ended in a tie and went into a Super-Over keeping the fans and the broadcasters at the edge of their seats.
In the Super Over, England sent in Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler to face Trent Boult and the pair managed 15 runs.Chasing 16 in the Super Over, New Zealand managed 15 but England won because they scored more boundaries in the match and in the Super Over.

Ben Stokes for his Fighting knock of 84 runs was declared Man of the match. Whereas with his incredible performances with the bat scoring 578 runs in 10 innings and with his captaincy took the Kiwi's into the Final Kane Williamson was declared Man of the series.
No team deserved to lose. At the end it was the cricketing spirt that won.
