Virat Kohli earlier who was not available for the limited overs on the tour of West Indies has suddenly informed BCCI that he will be around for the full tour. Does the speculations of sacking his captaincy from limited overs forced him to change his decision?
Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma post India's win over Bangladesh |
Is it the desperation for the current Indian Captain?
BCCI Selectors and the CoA will select the squad fo the West Indies tour tomorrow 19th July in Mumbai. Virat Kohli is expected to be present in Mumbai as well.
After the India's lost against New Zealand in the world cup semi final there have been buzz around the decision-making and team selections for which Captain-Coach are held responsible after 5th consecutive loss in ICC Knockout's.
The BCCI officials are also considering the fact of sacking Kohli's from his limited overs captaincy. Rohit Sharma's name is in the fore-front to take up the responsibility going forward. Clearly Virat Kohli's Captaincy is under the pump and is not for the first time. India have never won a major tournament under his captaincy nor the Ace batsman have guided an IPL team to the trophy yet.
While Rohit Sharma has excelled in the captaincy front. And its tempting to have him is as the captain for future of Indian Cricket. India won Asia cup, Nidahas Trophy under his captaincy, under him Mumbai has won 4 titles in the IPL more than any other captain in the history of IPL not even MS Dhoni has won that much.
With many strict actions after the loss in the World cup, Coaching staff is also under the radar and BCCI has informed about new applications for the coaching staff. Thus Kohli-Shastri duo may not be seen around going into the future.
Unlike last time Virat Kohli won't have a say in the Coach Selection process. Last time around he did force the selection panel to have a Coach of his liking casting aside Anil Kumble as head Coach and Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid as Bowling and Batting mentor respectively.
Important decisions are expected to be taken by the selectors and the committee. Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah may be seen rested considering the packed cricketing schedule during the year. Some good performances from the likes of Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Shubhman Gill might see them making thm in the squad considering the A tour being currently held in West Indies.
It will also be keen to see how BCCI handles the curious case of MS Dhoni. Or was it the last time we saw him on the Cricket field? The rumors of him retiring, mentoring the team etc will be crucial for the team in the long run.
