The best limited overs opener and one of the top batsman in the world at the moment. Rohit Sharma the man who carried the Indian batting singlehandedly in the recently concluded World Cup 2019. It wouldn't be a mistake to admit that Rohit Sharma's
career began in 2013. The IPL victory with the Mumbai Indians was a major turnaround that paved
the way to reach greater heights in the future.
He was moved
up the order and was given the opportunity to open the innings for India during
the 2013 Champions Trophy. Since 2013 in ODIs, Rohit Sharma has scored 6708 runs in 132 games at an average of 50+ each year. The 25 hundreds during this period also
include 3 double-tons which makes him the only player to reach this landmark.
Moving up
the order was the best thing that could have ever happened to Rohit Sharma and
that has changed the way he looks at the game now.
1. Three Double Centuries in ODI:
All in all, seven double tons have been scored in the limited-overs format and the Mumbai batsman nearly owns half of them in his name. The other four double hundreds have been scored by the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Martin Guptill and Chris Gayle.
209 vs Australia: A series decider However, that did not affect his morale as he teared up the Australian bowling, lighting up 12 fours and 16 sixes. That was enough to see the hosts down the Aussies by 57 runs.
264 vs Sri Lanka: Making a comeback into the team after missing three months through injury, Rohit once again made the world aware of his precious talent. There were still doubts about his place in the 2015 ICC World Cup. Rohit Sharma went berserk with the record highest ever Individual score in ODI.
208 vs Sri Lanka: India having lost the first ODI of the series with a linear batting performance, Rohit had to respond. The second highest score by a captain in ODI's after Virender Sehwag’s 219 vs West Indies. Only the second captain in ODI to hit a double century. 2. Mount Everest feat Rohit Sharma 264:
November 13 marks an important date in world cricket as it was the day when Rohit Sharma stunned the world with his second double hundred in one-day internationals.
During the fourth ODI of the five-match series against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Rohit struck 264 off 173 balls. The knock was studded with 33 fours and nine sixes.
Rohit's innings was so ludicrous that the first 100 runs, which were hit at a run-a-ball, seems achingly humdrum in comparison to the 164 that followed. The surge had actually begun before he reached his century, when he plundered 14 runs in four balls, in Nuwan Kulasekara's 30th over. Soon after that, the ball would be leaping off the middle of his bat with almost every stroke he offered.

In 2017, it was the same Rohit Sharma who had topped the charts for the most international sixes. Off 32 international games, he had slapped 65 sixes, bettering the mighty AB de Villiers’ record of 63 international sixes in 2015. The list also includes the likes of Chris Gayle, Shane Watson, Shahid Afridi and Brendon McCullum to name a few. Way back in 1998, it was India’s legend Sachin Tendulkar who held that record with as many as 51 international sixes.
