Ranchi: Prior to the start of the series the question on everyone's mind was Rohit Sharma as Test Opener? Well the answer couldn't have been better. The Mumbai batsman brought up his 6th Test hundred and his 3rd Test hundred as an opener in just the 4th innings as opener.

After India won the toss and elected to bat, it wasn’t easy for him. He saw Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara falling prey to pacer Kagiso Rabada.
Then he lost Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper, to Anrich Nortje. Rohit had a massive task at hand and he passed with flying colours. The conditions were difficult, but the new transformed Rohit Sharma was up and ready for the challenge.
He reached there with an audacious six over the wide long-off region off spinner Dane Piedt. He also became the second Indian opener to score three or more centuries in a Test series. Rohit’s knock was carved with 13 fours and 4 sixes. In the meantime, Twitterati couldn’t stop lauding Rohit on the masterclass.
Rohit Sharma equalled former captains MS Dhoni and MAK Pataudi on the list of most hundreds in Test cricket by India batsman. While MS Dhoni had hit 6 hundreds in 90 Tests, Rohit Sharma has got to the landmark in just his 30th Test.
With the 3rd hundred of the ongoing series vs South Africa, Rohit Sharma has become only the 2nd Indian opener after batting great Sunil Gavaskar to score 3 or more Test hundreds in a series. Gavaskar had done so thrice in his Test career.
Rohit Sharma also broke the record for the most number of sixes in a Test series, previously Shimron Hetmyer (15). Rohit now has 17*. Now Rohit also has the most number of sixes in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship leaving behind England's all-rounder Ben Stokes.
This is the second time he has got to a Test hundred with a maximum equalling Gautam Gambhir. Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with six Test centuries completed with a six.
