MCA stadium, Pune: India captain Virat Kohli smashed his first Test hundred in 2019 on Day 2 of the second Test against South Africa at MCA stadium, Pune. Overall, this is Kohli’s 26th ton in the longest format and 19th as Test Captain.

Earlier in the match, Kohli also became only the second Indian captain to lead the team in 50 Test matches. He went past former India Captain Sourav Ganguly, who had led the Indian side in 49 matches, but is yet to match Dhoni's tally of 60. With the hundred against South Africa, Kohli now has centuries against the other 7 Test playing nations at home. He had never scored a ton against the Proteas at home before.
Star batsman Virat Kohli on Friday eclipsed legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag by amassing a record seventh double hundred, the highest in Indian cricket history.
Some records came tumbling down as Virat Kohli smashed hundred against South Africa, With his ton, Kohli also equalled former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting’s massive Test record of scoring 19 Test hundreds as captain. He is tied at the 2nd place along with Ponting, with South Africa’s Graeme Smith at the top position with 25 centuries to his name.

Kohli also surpassed Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar to become the fourth quickest player to reach 26 Test hundreds in terms of innings played. While Kohli had taken 138 innings, Gavaskar had achieved the same feat in 144 innings. Only Don Bradman (69), Steve Smith (121) and Sachin Tendulkar (136) are higher than Kohli in the list.
Virat Kohli also became the first Indian Captain to score 40 International Hundreds, Kohli now has 19 Test hundreds as Captain and 21 ODI hundreds as captain.
Now only former Australia Captain Ricky Ponting has more International hundreds as captain(41).
Kohli also stitched a hundred run partnership with Ajinkya Rahane for 4th wicket, as Rahane went on to register his 20th Test half century. India are currently leading 1-0 in the Freedom Trophy.
