Reports: Rohit Sharma to take rest for Sri Lanka T20I's

MUMBAI: At last, Rohit Sharma has decided that he needs a break In the latest development, Rohit Sharma has decided to take a break from cricket. If reliable sources doing the rounds are to be believed, the Indian limited-overs vice-captain, who has been a regular feature across all formats this year will miss the upcoming three-match T20Is against Sri Lanka.


The first T20I is scheduled to be played at Guwahati on January 5, the second one will be played in Indore (January 7) and the third one will be at Pune (January 10). It has been learned that Rohit Sharma is likely to be back for the three-match ODI series against Australia later in January.

India are scheduled to take on Sri Lanka in a three-match series starting from January 5 and the squad is likely to be picked on December 26. The series will be a part of India's ongoing preparations for the World T20 in Australia next year.
Rohit, who has been a vital cog of the Indian team across formats, will be taking a break to manage his workload. He has been playing continuous cricket for India this year and enjoyed a purple patch with the bat. The Hitman signed off from 2019 with a brilliant knock of 63 runs in the third ODI against West Indies in Cuttack on Sunday. 
“The selectors normally don’t give rest to anyone in the T20 team, but Rohit has been on the road for quite a while now. He has informed the Board that he wants to take rest for this series,” a source in the BCCI said.

In his absence, Shikhar Dhawan will be taking the opening slot along with KL Rahul, who did well in both T20Is and ODIs in the recently-concluded series against West Indies. Dhawan was ruled out from the limited-overs series against Windies due to an injury in Syed Mushtak Ali Trophy and has recovered fully. He will be taking part in the Ranji Trophy for Delhi before making a comeback in the Indian team.
