India vs West Indies: Virat Kohli 'Master of Run Chase' did it again

HyderabadIndian captain Virat Kohli on Friday smashed his career high score against the West Indies at Hyderabad, while chasing visitors 207 total. Shimron Hetmyer's fifty helped West indies to post a huge total on board.

Kohli played a sublime innings of career best 94 not out in India's six-wicket win over West Indies in the first T20 International, the Master of run chase thus proved the tag once again.

Kohli hit six sixes and accelerated just when the team needed to help India chase down a 208-run victory target with eight balls to spare at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Earlier, Shimron Hetmyer smashed his maiden fifty in Twenty20 Internationals as the reigning 20-overs world champions put on a six-hitting exhibition, hitting 15 of them, in their commanding total of 207-5.

KL Rahul, Kohli’s century stand completed a clinical chase, going run-a-ball in his first 20 deliveries before plundering 74 in his next 30. The hosts lost Rohit early, but KL looked in fine touch to put up his case for the opening slot for next year’s Twenty20 World Cup in Australia. He scored 62 off 40 balls.

Kohli imitates Williams celebration:

Indian captain Virat Kohli was involved in some verbal exchanges with West Indies' Kesrick Williams at Hyderabad, when he imitated the famous 'notebook' celebration.
Williams has made the celebration a bit of a trademark in the Caribbean Premier League, and uses it to great effect each time he dismisses a batsman. However, it was Kohli who did the celebration after hitting Williams for a six.

Post match when Kohli was asked about the same he replied, “It's not from the CPL, it happened to me in Jamaica (in 2017) when he got me out. So I thought I'll tick a few in the notebook as well, but all good.

“There were a few words, but smiles at the end. That's what you want to see. Good competitive cricket but in the end shake hands. That's what cricket is all about. Play it hard but have respect for opponents."

Also talking about his approach in T20 format "Whenever I play T20 cricket I am not someone who comes to the ground to hit the ball in the air to entertain the crowd. I focus on doing the job. Our strength as a team is to strike in the latter half of the innings," Kohli said after the match.
