Reasons for India's poor show on New Zealand tour

Mumbai: With the Corona Virus pandemic Cricketing world is yet to see the action resume. India lost the ODI and the Test series in New Zealand in the most humiliating fashion recently and the mistakes should not be.

For a team ranked no. 1 in the world in test cricket, India has an astonishingly poor record overseas. The team managed one consolation win each in series defeats in England and South Africa. A 2-1 triumph against a weakened Australian team down under is the only overseas success of note on the team’s resume.

But if they want to hold true coach Ravi Shastri’s and Captain Virat Kohli's audacious claim of this being “the best Indian team in the last 15-20 years”, they must improve their overseas graph. Here are problems, clear as daylight, that India must address from the New Zealand tour.

Virat Kohli’s poor Captaincy: Kohli's captaincy in the 3-match ODI series was below par, New Zealand batsman kept scoring runs square of the wicket but Kohli seemed to have no plans for the same. From using defensive fields to handing the second new ball to Ashwin in the 1st test to not having any plans to NZ tailenders who added 125 runs in the 1st test and 82 runs in the 2nd test. Kohli has been too poor with his decision making and team selection. Once again Kohli's captaincy has been exposed at the International arena.

Absence of Rohit Sharma: This was the major factor with India's poor show after the T20I series. Rohit as we all know has been the most important part of batting line up since 2013, He piles up runs at the top making life easy for batsman coming later. Even Rohit’s performances have effects on Kohli’s performances. In absence of Rohit Sharma overseas Kohli struggles.

Also Rohit Sharma’s talk with the bowlers, making plans and executing them. We all know Kohli as a captain struggles when either Rohit or Dhoni is missing from the squad. Exact things we saw after the T20 series. The captaincy has been bad, no particular plans rather Kohli looked clueless in absence of Rohit.

Not learning from mistakes: Indian team played the 3 day practice match on similar green top, exactly that gave indications that the Wellington wicket would be green top. Indian batting was rattled in the practice match and they didn’t learn from the mistakes and exactly it happened in first innings in First test. Also Kohli national team captain didn’t come out on the field even for one session. I mean so much ego! Also it was a 3 day match but India shook hands 2.5 days itself, Why?

Big Talk: Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli always has big talks ahead of tours, “We don’t care if its home or away everything is home to us”“For us Wankhede and Wellington is same”, “We’ll be the best touring side”. All talk but less action.

Also Virat Kohli has never accepted his mistakes, Kohli’s words “There’s nothing so big that happened we did mistake and lost the test” Kohli has been saying this since a long time on overseas tours.

Kohli’s words “They(NZ) set fields accordingly, get into the mind of the batsmen, and make the batsmen do something that they don't want to”
This statement from a National team Captain is really difficult to understand. Clearly the captaincy is taking a toll on Kohli. NZ were 227–7 i guess you took the second new ball and handed it to Ashwin on an overseas tour. India couldn't wrap up the New Zealand tail.
Virat Kohli also said in a press con “My scores doesn’t reflect the way I’m batting” clearly didn’t accept that he has been making many mistakes and hence failing. The New Zealand tour has been as worst as the horror 2014 England tour. But Virat is yet to accept his mistakes and thinks he is batting really well.

Kohli’s words "You have to try and get into a positive frame of mind”
Also Kohli got what he wanted every support staff of his choice, so still no results?
Kohli’s words "But it was a strange pitch. I was talking to Kane [Williamson] as well. It wasn't seaming around, wasn't troubling us with swing”
Clearly India had a practice match prior to the Test series, Kohli didn’t even came out for one session Why? It was a 3 day game means total 9 sessions, but India after the 7th session shook hands and walked off, Why? Why didn’t they play those 2 sessions? Was the practice enough?
Also Kohli’s words after 0–3 ODI loss “ODI are less relevant this year”
Such statements from Indian Captain is a disrespect to that particular format of the game.
