Vizag: Team India won the second One Day International against West Indies played in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday by demolishing their bowling attack. While India crushed Windies with Rohit-Rahul's tons and Kuldeep's hat-trick.
But the long story was the array of records Rohit Sharma set and broke with his match winning 159-run knock. Rightly said the 'Best opener in the World' but none as devastating as Rohit Sharma since Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Brendon McCullum.
A fourth double hundred too was in the offering, but Wednesday was all about keeping India stay alive in the series . He backed his natural instinct for a while before unleashing a stunning array of shots that left the World of cricket amused.
The mantra for Rohit Sharma's batting is simple, if you want to score a hundred make it a Daddy Hundred.
1. Rohit is now the only player with 8 scores of 150+ in ODI's. David Warner stands next on the list with six scores of 150+.
2. Rohit is now the only player to have three 150+ scores in ODI cricket against an opponent. He struck two 150+ scores during the last year’s home ODI series against the West Indies.
3. Rohit Sharma has recorded a 150+ score in ODI cricket in every calendar year since 2013. His highest ODI score every year has been India’s highest ODI score in every year in these seven calendar years.
4. Rohit Sharma became the first opener in International cricket to smash ten hundreds in a calendar year. Sachin Tendulkar in 1998, Graeme Smith in 2005 and David Warner in 2016 scored 9 hundreds respectively while opening the innings.
5. Rohit is also only the 4th Indian with 10+ International hundreds in a calendar year. Sachin Tendulkar struck a record 12 hundreds in 1998 while Virat Kohli had 11 hundreds in 2017 and 2018. Rahul Dravid also hit 10 centuries in Internationals in 1999.
6. Rohit now has seven hundreds in ODI cricket in 2019, all against different oppositions. He struck hundreds against South Africa, Pakistan, England, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka during the CWC 2019 and an ODI ton against Australia in Australia. He thus became the first player to score ODI hundreds against seven different oppositions in a calendar year.
7. Rohit’s seven ODI hundreds in 2019 are the joint 2nd most ODI hundreds by any player in a calendar year. Sachin Tendulkar had as many as nine centuries in 1998 while Sourav Ganguly and David Warner hit 7 hundreds in 2000 and 2016 respectively.
8. Rohit has smashed as many as 77 sixes in International cricket in 2019. These are the most International sixes by any player in a calendar year. Rohit broke his own record which he set in 2018 with 74 sixes. Rohit held this record with 65 sixes during the year 2017. Thus 3 years Rohit has been leading the sixes chart around the world.
9. Rohit Sharma became the leading six hitter on Indian soil. Rohit has hit as many as 190 sixes in International cricket in India. These are the most number of International sixes by any player on Indian soil surpassing MS Dhoni’s 186 sixes.
10. Rohit Sharma became only the 5th player in history to score 28 hundreds in ODI cricket. He needed 213 innings for his 28th ODI ton, the 2nd fewest innings to get there after Virat Kohli (189).
11. Rohit has amassed 2379 runs in International matches in 2019, the most by any player this year. These are also the most number of International runs by an Indian opener in a calendar year surpassing Virender Sehwag’s 2355 runs in 2008. In fact, only Sanath Jayasuriya (2387 runs in 1997) scored more International runs in a calendar year while opening the innings than Rohit in 2019.
12. 21 out of Rohit's 28 ODI hundreds have come in a winning cause, that's an impressive 75% in India's wins.
Rohit is all set to end 2019 as the highest ODI scorer with 1427 runs, well ahead of Virat Kohli’s aggregate of 1297.
